DIAGNOSTIC AUDIOLOGIC EVALUATIONS

All testing is performed by our licensed Audiologist, Mr. L. Kevin Guess, M.S., CCC/A. During your examination we assess your middle ear function as well as your responses to tones and speech signals. The results will help us determine your percentage of hearing loss, your ability to understand speech and if hearing aids will improve your ability to hear.

HEARING EVALUATIONS FOR CHILDREN

Mr. Guess is trained in specific techniques to evaluate the hearing of a child. Toys, games, and lights are used in the testing room to help obtain responses from a child to soft tones, noises, or words. The child may wear headphones or listen to the sounds in a room with speakers.

SCREENING FOR AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS (APD)

APD evaluations are most commonly performed for school-age children, although many adults are also tested. Testing for APD consists of a hearing test and several tasks where words or sentences must be repeated in different listening conditions.

AUDITORY BRAIN STEM RESPONSE (ABR) TESTING FOR INFANTS

(BY REFERRAL ONLY)

An Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) is a hearing test that measures the auditory nerve’s response to sounds. ABRs are often used for infants or children who cannot give verbal or behavioral responses to sounds they hear.

VIDEONYSTAGMOGRAPHY (VNG) TESTING (BY REFERRAL ONLY)

The inner ear has two parts. One part is for hearing and one part is for balance. VNG testing is designed to give us information about the balance part of your inner ear. This testing is part of a standard protocol used in helping patients that are experiencing dizziness.
